After the luncheon, all are invited to join us at the Good Samaritan Ministries’ headquarters for a joy-filled desert reception, and a chance to fellowship together.

An Excerpt From Bettie Mitchell on the history of Good Friday at GSM:

“When the ministry began in the house, I was shocked at the isolation of Christians from the power of the Cross! It was the biggest need I saw in case after case! I decided to radically change that on Good Friday in 1978. I would have a three hour Good Friday luncheon at our house. It was hard to mix a sacred event with a luncheon. Surely it should be a day of fasting and sorrow. Never the less, it was to be the way it started, we came together as we ate, we became One as the quiet came for us.

Each of the three hours is a separate event within the whole…Each hour has a name…

The First Hour – Holy Music greets each person who comes into the quiet room. Lunch is served, and hymns are sung together in a spirit of unity.

The Second Hour – The Second Hour is to be a time of the deepest healing…the fullness of sin and evil must break down before the greatness and goodness of God. The very air in the room is hushed before the Lord Himself.

The Third Hour – The crowd is given the opportunity to minister to one another by the anointing of oil at the tables. Holy communion is taken when one is ready, alone or with someone. A sacred and sacrificial offering is given. As the end of the event draws near, we take salt at the tables, remembering the words of Jesus in Mark 9:50. At exactly 3:00pm, as the shofar blows, we cry out with Jesus, “It is Finished.” The New Year begins! The excitement in the room is palpable as forgiveness is completed in and among all of us.”
